Hanging bear bags off of a cliff works well if you can find one tall enough. This was certainly coyote proof but we're not so sure how it would have faired had a hungry bear come around.  Fortunately the bears didn't seem to have much interest in hanging out up near the tree line this late in the season. We had one bear can with us and it was far more convenient.
